Kathy, my gout med is not helping and I am hobbling along and not able to exercise. I am throwing so much weight on my good leg that it is now hurting too from all thr strain.

Do your meds raise your BG? I am sorry you are having so much trouble with this.

Richard - Can you see Dr. B for some help with the gout?  It is frustrating to have weather that would permit walking outside and then not to be able to walk w/o pain.  I will send you positive thoughts so that maybe tomorrow will be better for you.

The meds don't necessarily elevate my BG but the ongoing infection sure does.  My average is now about 185 up from an average of 110-115.  I've had BG numbers as high as 510 (28).  I think part of my elevated BG problem also comes from being tramatised during the PICC line procedure.  The Dr. doing the procedure did not explain what was going to happen or if it might hurt.  Needless to say I'm not happy with him at all!

Kathy do you have any of the problems/benefits mentioned in the link attached? i hope you can adjust to it and the infection is cured by one of the meds soon.

Richard, I have a fairly large bruise on the underside of my arm where the PICC line was inserted.  The procedure was done almost 2 weeks ago and the bruise does not seem to be going away.  There is also a fair amount of pain in the area and I see the Dr. tomorrow, so hopefully he will have know what to do for that.  Thanks for the link.........wish I had read that before I had the procedure.  The worst part of all of this was that no one told me anything about what to expect.

My JSP is to work on getting my bloodsugars down a bit more
Since coming home from hospital I have seen double figures (but I do have another chest infection according
to my GP) but I do need to work on my insulin/food regime to try and get back to single figures again

I was given medication for the inflammation. There was bad swelling, reddness and my heel area was very hot. Now all those symptoms are almost gone and my walking is almost normal. The gout med will take awhile to completely lower the uric acid level in my body. When that happens I will be back to normal. I was afraid that I would not get to go to Boston and participate in the Joslin Medalist Study on Nov 30. It looks like things will be OK for that trip.
