Many new folks are visiting this site Can we create a quick guide to dearjanis.com? Help me everyone. 1. We are an unusual family that ALWAYS welcomes new members. 2. We have quite a few odd characters that you will meet, such as Dan, our resident caveman, and Richard the rooster who watches over our hen house and posts the craziest photos. You are welcome to become a unique character too! 3. If you see the word "clink" at the end of a message, it is the sound of our elegant champagne glasses (filled with sugar-free beverages) clinking. We love to celebrate success. 4. Many of us are participating in the national President's Challenge. We signed up on the site and log on our activity minutes. There is a thread in the message board that explains how to join in the fun. Please join us! 5. We also make a Jump Start Pledge each week. This is a simple health care behavior that we each pledge to do for a single week. They really help you improve your life...one step at a time! Help me gang. Please post more of our crazy things so more people can join in the fun. Janis

Reply with quote | #2 | One of the things that I like so very much about this family is that Janis Roszler, the creator and moderator of this site, is an avid participant. She takes part in our discussions and gives wonderful advice. She is also silly just like the rest of us. She is a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) and a RD (Registered Dietitian). She has also written three wonderful books for diabetics. She is highly qualified for offering help to all of us on diabetes related questions. This is unique. I belong to six other diabetes sites where there is no one other than fellow members to ask for advice and support. Janis is very special and she makes this community a truly wonderful experience!!

Reply with quote | #5 | We are family......I am dancing over here..... . Venting is allowed and we do talk about spouses. Silliness and humor is required. We have family members overseas that speak funny English... . We all understand the up and downs. Everyone is free to ask any questions. I think that we need a FAQ link that is lock of course. The chicken coup, clink and clank is a must, tea parties, pizza diet... , evil palm trees and chain saws, midnight parties at Janis's house when she is out of country .
I think the important think is to let everyone know this is a safe place to come and talk especially when the depress hits, the spouse is driving you crazy and the sugar police is stalking you . Never ever fell guilty about being a diabetic .
I better get back to work.

Reply with quote | #6 | I can't add much to what everyone else has said, but this is a great place to come to share, laugh, commiserate, vent, and help others. There are good people here, and we welcome anyone to jump in anytime--we love making new friends!!

Reply with quote | #10 | Hi my name is Coach Sean and I'm a new member at dearjanis.com Not everybody at once ----------------------------------Hi Coach Sean! I guess if I get addicted to a message board it would be this one. Janis & family and I go way back. "Thanksgiving 97" D-Town (Detroit is where I am referring to) I had my first experience with having lox. First thought no way but in the end I ate about 4 of them. Thanks for welcoming the newbie.. __________________ Coach Sean CPT |

Hi, Sean!
I welcomed (is that a word?) you on another thread, but I'll do it again here. One can never have too many "Come on in, take your coat off and stay awhile's"!! Tell us a little bit about you!
I'm a (probable) type 1.5, and have been diabetic for about nine years. I take Lantus and Humalog, no meds.
I hope you can stop in often--there's a great group here. We like to have fun and laugh, but it's also a great place to find comfort, advice, and company. Of course, this crazy bunch is headed up by our fearless leader Janis, dispenser of sound advice and pearls of wisdom--we love her!!!
Again, welcome!!

Reply with quote | #12 | Hi, I thought this might be a good time to bring this up to the forefront again, with our 2 new members, and others reading our posts. Scroll up to the top and read what Janis posted. She explains it all.

Reply with quote | #14 | I can say that this is a great website for people that are prediabetic, type 1 or 2 or have family members that are diabetic and they need help or tips to help their loved ones deal with diabetes.
NO one judges you for asking too many questions and no one laughs at you when you are totally clueless about diabetes treatment.
Everyone makes you feel welcome and just so doggone warm and fuzzy.
The website helps us all to feel less alone and alienated. |

Reply with quote | #15 | Hi, I don't post very often. In fact; I'm not online very often these days. But one thing I noticed right off the bat is the fact that we can share our faith (or lack of) and not be ridiculed by anyone.
We also get a LOT of support from people here. And questions are always answered. And fears are calmed. ~Deb†__________________ One day with Jesus is better than a thousand days without. |
