Thanks for the suggestion Mary.  I will be seeing an endo on Tues. for the first time.  I'll see what she says.  I'm glad things are working out so well for you!

Hey! i got me a pedometer Wed. and thought I would give the walking club a try. I wore it yesterday and today. I forgot how many steps I walked yesterday(I think it was 3900 something) Not too good but a start. I do want to increase the steps.

Today so far 1630. Not too good either! But I pledge to try to increase every day!

Hey gang, Buddy and I went out for a walk about 10:30 this morning.  For some reason my pedometer isn't working.  Maybe I should get a new one.  Well, I figure I am out walking anyway.  Read you later -

Sharon, you don't need a pedometer to tell you walked.  Like I said, mine isn't working and I gave up using it, FOURTH ONE PEOPLE, but I know the distance/miles I walk and that is what counts. Will finish emailing you!  Sluggish today!  CLINK! Paula

I couldn't go 30 minutes at 2.5 when I started either! Anything is a good start, my friend! The more you build on that first one, the longer and faster you go! Thanks for the cudos! I'm really proud of you, though for keeping at it.

As for a pedometer, I still stand by the one that my daughter gave me over 3 years ago. I have used it nearly every day during that time without a spec of trouble. It's an Omron HJ-112. Once I set it to my stride length (not difficult or I wouldn't be able to do it!) the only thing that has kept it from functioning is when the battery died. Once I replaced that, it ran great again! It tells me steps, aerobic steps, the time, number of aerobic minutes walked, "lcal",miles, and the number of total steps walked for each of the past 7 days. It doesn't give a false reading of steps if you didn't walk them like some of the less expensive ones do. (I put it in the pocket on the back of my seat in the car when we moved here to AZ just to see if the bouncing of the car "read" as steps. It didn't!

Paula....what have you done to your Omron??? When you got the new one, you DID get the same one that I recommended didn't you???

Richard....that's great about the endo on Tuesday! Let us know. If it's a "go" then we can watch the movie together on Wednesday morning early!

Terry Lee....I think that's a marvelous place to begin! Before I was put on "treadmill duty" by my doctor, I frequently had trouble getting up to 1500 or so ALL day!!! You're doing fine!! The key is consistency and working to increase or improve on a regular basis with some tangible goals that you set for yourself. Good for you!!! I'm proud of you for beginning! After all, the first step is the most difficult....it's getting up off our "be-hinds" and beginning.

My numbers for today's "report":

Total steps yesterday: 7135

Treadmill today: 30 minutes at 2.5 mph no incline....only a few minutes of Along Came A Spider left for tomorrow. I'll have to find another movie to start when it's finished. Happy walking gang!!!

Last summer I hit over 16,000 steps on a couple of days, and boy did my calves scream!!  It usually took 3 walks in a day to do that.

I'd love to join you, BUT Karen and I managed to break my good pedometer. I will replace it in the good weather. I tried wearing one around the house that I got at the Dollar Tree store. It was OK for a buck. The main problem is Karen keeps lifting my shirt to see it.  She has no clue what it is or what it does, but just like my car keys and my purse, she associates a pedometer with going out. So when I wear one all day, she keeps bugging me. She bugs me enough for right now. Yes, Queenie bugs me...she thinks it is her vocation in life to do so.

Lou

I walked a mile in 21 minutes yesterday.  That's 2.86mph for 21 minutes with incline = 6.5.  Some sore muscles but fetting better.  I have lost 5 pounds this month but I think that is mostly due to restricting myself to 150 carbs per day.  I miss some of my favorite junk foods but I can always use the "pizza method", right Janis?    That is a secret method Janis and Lou know about.  The rest of you are better off not knowing.  You will not find it on Google!     I think I have too much rascalness in me.

Well, Richard, if you are going to hint at it, we are going to have lots of curious folks wondering.  You are going to have to share it and have everyone groan on this site too!

Terry Lee, that's great!!! So how many did you end up doing for the day??

Karen...16,000? Good heavens!!! That's incredible!!!

Alright Richard, you rascal! You surely must know by now that I can't stand not knowing secrets!!! (I know...I know...and don't call you Shirley! ) Do tell the pizza method!!!

I've lost about 63 pounds so far, though the scale said that since the beginning of January I'd gained 8 lbs! It shows that I'm back down almost to what I was and only need to show another 3-4 lbs less before I start adding to the 63 lbs lost number again. I was not getting enough water, so I was retaining fluid. Plus, I finally stopped my hormone replacement therapy, and increasing my activity level by adding speed as of Jan 1st probably has been adding more muscle (which weighs more than fat) at a time that I had hit a plateau. My scale is a doctor's scale, and the numbers are going back down, so that makes me happy. Despite what the scales said, people who saw me at Thanksgiving are floored at the difference in my physical appearance (since Christmas), so I suspect that some reshaping has been going on too.

Today's numbers:

Total steps yesterday: 6210

Today's treadmill: 30 minutes at ** 2.6 ** mph and 0 incline

Hey everyone.  I'm new here, but I heard about this walking club and thought I would check it out.  I love walking on my treadmill.  I try to walk at least 2 miles and my speed is usually between 3.5-4.0.  I also like to throw in a jog a couple of times a week, but I'm only good for about 10 minutes at a time.  I've recently gone back to work (part-time) after being a stay-at-home for 10 years, so this has hindered my exercise schedule.  I'm so tired at the end of the day I can't even consider exercising.  I'm trying to work-out on my "off days" and then both weekend days.  I figure that will be good enough for now, until I get my stamina back on those days I work.

I'm looking forward to learning about everyone here.

Okay Mary, you "corny" woman!  You are going to have to work to find the "pizza method".  Just remember, you asked for this!  Go to the website:  "dlife.com".  Click on the "Support" option, or circle, at the top of the page.  Look at list of forums and pick the type 1 forum.  Now click on page 5 of that forum.  Click on the thread labled "Pizza".  Scan the posts until you reach mine.  Voila! The way I eat junk food without it raising my BSL or increasing my weight.  The "Pizza Method".  Am I not a genius???     I hope I'm not thrown out for this.  Does Janis have a bouncer for her website?
