Hi Sharon, what you are doing sound great! I hope the workouts with your trainer continue to help you.

I have a trainer who helped me at the gym starting a couple of years ago. I had to stop in Nov, 2012, after having bad pain in my knees. I am going to have both knees replaced. That will take a very long time. Maybe I can go to the gym and do some upper body exercises. I will ask my orthopedic surgeon about that.

Thanks Richard.  Had another great workout at rehab today.  Tomorrow I will go back to the exercise room in our senior community.

Well, didn't make it to the exercise room where we live yesterday - woke up to late and then we had to go help our daughter.

BUT I got to rehab today and had a good workout.

You know, I've been thinking about the "diet" from my rehab.  Patrick, my trainer, has made up another lifechanging diet.  He has a  High carb, Low carb weekly cycle.  He has each "meal" (6 eating times during each day, so it would be meals and snacks)  Anyway, I have looked it over and he has told me that I should be able to loose 2# every week by staying on THIS diet.  I know he eats this way from what he has told me and from what everyone else has said that works there.  Anyway, I am thinking that because of your book, Janis, DIABETES ON YOUR OWN TERMS, and from what Margaret (CDE here) has said, that what works for one person may not work for another.  I truly believe that and I think I am going to tell Patrick that next Wed. when I go.  He insists everybody eat certain things or it isn't right and one won't loose the weight right.  (sorry about all the "underline" above - could't get rid of it until later).  I may look back in your book and take it in with me to show him.  I really do like him.  He's a very good trainer and encourger for everyone all the time.  (Besided he's very good looking, which isn't bad either - lol).  He used to insist that we buy Ezekial bread, tortillas, etc.  But my cardio said to just buy 100% whole wheat, doesn't HAVE to be just Ezekial brand.  He has very good ideas but they don't necessarily work for everyone the same.

Thanks for letting me rant.

Hi Sharon,
If you want to follow his suggestions, I wouldn't do high carb/low carb, but might try moderate carb/lower carb.  His plan has merit, but could be a problem for someone with diabetes.  A modified version of it could work for you, if you want to give it a try.

Hey gang, had to stop my Rehab of AZ workouts since my by-pass.  But tomorrow I will start my cardio rehab at the hospital.  She said to dress comfortable.  It will also take 1 1/2 hrs. for the nurse to explain everything to me and then try some machines for a while.  After that I need to allow 2 hrs. every time.  Don't know how many times a week I will be going - find that out tomorrow.

Hey gang, I just got back from my first rehab at the hospital.  The nurse did explain a lot of things to me and got me hooked up to my heart monitor.  They offer education classes as part of this program, but only on Wed.  So I will go at 1:45 for ed class and then do the exercises at 3 for 1 hr.  It is a series of 10 classes repeated over and over so if I happen to miss a class I can always catch up later.  I really liked it - one thing it gets me out of the house and gets me healthy.  I will still go to the Get Fit Club at church, on Sunday afternoons, knowing just how fast I can go now.
Read you later -

Update of my cardio rehab at the hospital - doing very well.  My bp is down to between 116/60-156/70 - latter one is during exercise that is very good.  I met a girlfriend for lunch today and she remarked how good I am looking and that she can tell in my face that I have lost weight.  I am feeling good - though I am still tired and can go to sleep after I get up, get dressed, and have breakfast.  My head feels funny and I just sit in my chair and go right to sleep!  Hate that!

Hey gang, went to my cardio rehab today.  One of the gals came to me and gave me a heads up that they may have done all they can for me.  Unless I can push myself further than I have I am about done. I will finish out the week on Fri.  They are not open next Mon.  But I will go back again next Wed.  They have a rating scale for individuals to rate how they feel on each machine/free weights, from 5-18 with 5 being the lightest, 13 being slightly hard (which is where they want you) and 18 being way to hard/tiring.  I am now on 13 for most things and holding.  They did take me off the treadmill because my knees hurt just enough to keep me from going for a longer period that 15 min. with 1 min. cool down.  They did let me try the recumbent bike but I was always hitting my belly and I also have to be on it for a certain length of time which I don't think I could do.  The gal did tell me they would tell me when I would have to stop - that they are done.  Medicare will pay for 35 days and I don't think I will make that - last Fri. was day 12 going 3 days a week take me into July.  Anyway, that is where I am now.  Actually I feel pretty good about what I have accomplished.  I haven't told Larry yet but will tonight.  We do have 3 community pools where we live so I should start going there in the evenings.  Also have to talk with my cardio dr. about going back to Rehab of AZ.  That was 2 days a week.  There is a form that dr. has to fill out and sign to release me to Rehab of AZ.  We'll see.  I see my cardio next Wed.

Sharon,
Did these people adjust the seat on the recumbent bike for your comfort?  I have a recumbent bike and the seat can be adjusted so nothing hits your belly.

Yes, they did adjust the seat.  Another thing is that I have to on it for a certain length of time right from the beginning - like 45-50 min.  I can't do that now.
